This year, FANUC Robotics puts its proven marketplace concept into action once more, at Automatica, with a convincing mix of its own robot solutions and application examples from chosen system houses. The innovative highlight, thereby, is the premiere of the new delta robot, the M-3iA series. Furthermore, a total of 13 partner-enterprises will present varying, live application examples at the exhibition stand. Here, the spectrum ranges from luggage handling to varying machining and processing examples, from materials, such as metal and plastic, to sophisticated pick & place applications within the foodstuffs sector.
The Delta Robot – M-3iA
FANUC Robotics will present itself at its “marketplace of innovation and applications” at Automatica, in Munich, with a representative cross-sectional area from its very own robot portfolio. The highlight is, undisputedly, the new delta robot, M-3iA. “Our developers succeeded again with the great M-3iA”, reveals Gerald Mies, General Manager, FANUC Robotics Germany GmbH, enthusiastically and names the modular expansion stages of the 4 and 6-axes, the large bearing load of 6kg, the fast, rotund axis movement up to a level of 4.000°/sec, as well as the excellent repeat accuracy of 0.1 mm/s, as evidence. Thereby, the 4-axial version namely operates as the “M-3iA/6S”, whilst the 6-axis will appear on the market as the “M-3iA/6A”.

The difference between the two robot models lies in the design of the wrist joints, with an alternative three axes. As an absolute novelty in the market, the motors of the wrists are attached in the leaver arm, which boosts the rigidity in the fourth axis and in the 4 to 6- axes accordingly, as well as improving the crucial precision when gripping. In addition, it has a further feature to the M-3iA/6S, as alongside the possible disclaimer of a telescopic drive for the pivot axle, the four-axis variant also captivates with its cavernous joint, whose design is patented by FANUC itself.
M-3iA series
The innovations of the “M-3iA” also have an almost cylindrical work space, which is indicated in the case of the 1350 mm diameter. Furthermore, the four-axis “M-3iA/6S” is attractive because of its axel speed at the wrist of 4000°/sec, whilst for the rotational axes of the 6-axel M-3iA/6A, at least 2000°/sec are registered in the data sheet.
One sees concrete operational areas for the M-3iA with FANUC Robotics, for example, with the assembling of electric and electronic components, but also with high speed applications in the pharmaceutical, food or solar industries. With view of the possible applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries, both new M-3iA robots are, incidentally, particularly resistant with an epoxy resin finish in relation to cleaning agents and impurities.
The Palletising Robot: M-410iB/140H
The second robot-innovation at the FANUC Robotics stand is the four-axis, palletizing robot, the M-410iB/140H. With a load of 140 kg, due to axis speeds of between 115°/sec and 420°/sec, it ranks top of its class, with regards to this particular speediness of a new scale. For example, the M-410iB/140H creates, using an “elevating-positioning-device”, a cycle of 400/2000/400mm, an impressive bearing load of at least 60 kg and 1900 cycles/h. The work space also offers the new FANUC palletising-robot, thanks to convincing peak value coverage of 2850mm (the maximum vertical distance to the adapter is specified for a load of 40kg with 700mm). Further highlights include:
· Excellent repeat accuracy of +/- 0.2mm
· Optimisation for simplest assembling of grippers and highest operating reliability
· Integration of cables & air tubes in the J3-arm
· I/O and air tubes near to the wrist
· Slender arm and compact wrist for minimal space requirement
· Low overall height of arm for functioning in low spaces
· The mechanical device is splash resistant (IP 54)
R-1000iA with LEWA’s Speed Gun:
The perfect team for high-speed welding
A further exhibition highlight is the presentation of the high-speed symbiosis from the fast R-1000iA robot from FANUC and the recently developed “Speed Gun” of LEWA Attendorn GmbH, which celebrates its world’s premiere in Munich. The specifically developed Lewa Speed Gun for the R-1000iA robot is the first simple medium-frequency servo pincer with a compressive force of 600daN. The new production-double promises faster precision welding in a poky space and the high ambitions at Automatica include the impressive documentation and underlining of, for example, a complete manufacturing cell (ready for use!).
Marketplace of Applications
Next to LEWA Attendorn GmbH, a further 12 system partners in total will present themselves to trade and business professionals at the FANUC Robotics’ stand, with representative application solutions. For example, Aberle Robotics GmbH will show a monumental solution for the luggage handling within the airport industry, with which an M-710iC/70T from FANUC Robotics is used; and the Italian ABL Automazione will present a similarly impressive assembly cell on the basis of the M-10iA robot.
The Swiss company, Robotec Solutions AG, has something very special planned for Automatica, in which they will actualise a completely “yellow” process chain of injection moulding. Core modules of the production system are the Roboshot S-2000i/100B as a casting machine; the Plastic Mate as a handling system for the removal of parts; as well as the Feeder Mate (flexible robot feed system), for quality control and packaging, which, in addition, bears a sweet surprise for willing visitors.
With a rapid pick and place solution for the foodstuffs sector, ASA Automatisierungs- und F?rdersysteme GmbH presents itself to the exhibition visitors from Mainhausen. Two modules of large handling systems will be shown, equipped with the M-3iA/6S, the new high speed delta robot.
HandlingTech Automations-Systeme GmbH, from Stuttgart, will display a machine tool application, consisting of the Robo-drill machine and M-20iB/20, whilst K+L Elektrotechnik GmbH, from Limbach-Oberfrohna will present, among others, a coordinate-measuring application. Similarly, CELLRO B.V. from the Netherlands, primarily operate within the machine tooling industry, where they have the ability to demonstrate, for example, two profoundly standardized, and equally highly flexible, handling cells with the M-710iC/50 and/or M-10iA/10 robots.
MartinMechanic Friedrich Martin GmbH & Co KG, from Nagold, will demonstrate, to specialised visitors, their competence in the future market of solar technology – for example, among others, a smooth handling solution with the M-710iA/50 robot.
As specialists of development and compact apparatus construction, with high flexibility and efficiency for the most diverse fields, MATHEUS Industrie-Automation GmbH focus on their specific know-how, presenting two successful examples of gripper technology and change.
Travelling from the proximity of Milan, RAHM s.r.l. will display an impressive forging application. One may be curious, thereby, which parts of the M-2000iA/1200 from FANUC Robotics have stemmed. The bearing load of this world-record robot amounts, at least, to a proud 1200kg, and 1359kg are even possible, with appropriate updates. MOTOFIL ROBOTICS S.A. will make an even further journey to Munich, coming from Portugal, and will present a welding application with two Arc Mate100iC robots.
Geiger Fertigungstechnologie GmbH has chosen to present something completely different at the tradeshow. Loosely based on the slogan, “Nomen est Omen”, two M-10iA/10 robots will be shown, brought together into close dialogue with the playing of an actual violin.
Golf, Football, Cocktails & Co.
For completion of the tradeshow, FANUC Robotics will provide convincing industry solutions for pick and place, for example, as well as handling tasks in the foodstuffs industry, or for welding and painting, whilst football and golf cells provide variation to the norm, before the Robo-shaker sets a culinary finale.
